Heavenly Days

Siobhan and Linda, flowers

Siobhan with Reverend Linda Fleming

July 6th and 7th were big days in our community, our church and our family.  Siobhan, along with three other young people, were confirmed into St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Dixon. Wyoming Bishop John Smylie visited our small parish for the confirmation, and to ordain my cousin, community leader Linda Fleming, as a priest in the Episcopal Church.  The church has a way for congregations to “discern” from within their numbers, parishoners who might become deacons or priests.  Several years ago, Linda was discerned, accepted the call, and spent a lot of time in study and training. This was an exciting time for our congregation, as we now have a local priest, and several young people newly confirmed. One of Linda’s first acts as priest was to baptize Torran Duncan.

There’s more than one way to conceive a calf

We love our bulls, but a couple of years ago we made a decision to breed some of cows using artificial insemination. Eamon spends hours studying the bull catalog, gazing at them as if they were suggestive photos of ladies.  In fact, if you were a cow, you might look at them with that eye.

A.I. is a good way to improve herd genetics in a hurry.  It is possible to buy semen from the nation’s top bulls, when the cost of buying such bulls would be beyond the means of the typical rancher.

Where's the bull?
