Almost Eclipse

Leaf stipled shadow

Ninety-eight percent,
turns out isn’t mostly dim,
but sorta smoky

Like those brush fire days
when blazes light up the range
and wind blows our way,

Dimming the mountains.
I expected more twilight–
maybe a few stars.

Still—through the glasses,
the moon slid over the sun,
leaving a crescent.

It grew chill, and still,
and leaf shadows lay stipled.
Not Totality.

Siobhan and lamb, ready for the eclipse!

Twin Lamb Haiku

Twin lambs on the ground,

Safe and sound with their mama,

Their whole life ahead.

March

Squaw Mountain with mist

In like a banshee,
Be wary—the Ides of March
And out like a mist.

Battle Mountain with mist

Waiting for the green

Cows at Powder Flat

Waiting for the green

Snow melt seeps and soaks the roots

Of summer’s bounty

finding the burrs

plenty to eat

Hoarfrost Haiku

hoarfrost-on-fence

Hoarfrost stars sparkling,

meteors blazing a cold

ephemeral light.

Helicopter with bucket hauling water to the Snake Fire

All the Forest waits

to burn, nature’s tinderbox

waiting for a match.

Seamus, Maeve, Tiarnan

Check out the late chokecherries

And dream of jelly.
